About Us: The Oak Ridge Heritage and Preservation Association (ORHPA) was formed in September 1999 for the purposes of preventing further demolition of our historic structures and the loss of our unique history. The loss of Charlotte Hall and Cheyenne Hall, the last of the dormitory-type structures, was still fresh on the minds of Oak Ridgers. It was clear that a group needed to be formed that would work to save our heritage. ORHPA quickly grew to over 150 members and gained its charter as an official non-profit organization in 2000. Today, ORHPA is a key element in the preservation of all of Oak Ridge's heritage. Monthly meetings (open to the public) are held in the Midtown Community Center, a building that was saved through ORHPA's efforts and was provided to the organization by the city of Oak Ridge in 2000. Mission: To preserve Oak Ridge's history and it's built environment (early structures, etc.) and develop education and cultural resources for the benefit of present and future generations. Purpose: Going forward with the future while preserving the past. You can make a difference. We can help to preserve historic Oak Ridge: |
